About Ian

A life in
movement.

An international career in ballet and theatre, and a deep commitment to the people who make it.

A former dancer with The National Ballet of Canada and Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, West End performer and longtime member of the Artistic Faculty at Canada's National Ballet School, Ian brings a substantial international career to ballet education, artistic coaching, rehearsal direction and choreography.

Classical roots.
An international stage.

A graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School’s Professional Ballet Program, Ian began his performing career with The National Ballet of Canada and Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. He danced repertoire by dance luminaries such as James Kudelka, John Neumeier, Jiří Kylián and Jean-Christophe Maillot, among others. These experiences give Ian an artistic lineage that continues to inform his eye for musicality, detail and dramatic intention.

That experience of different choreographic languages now informs how he coaches dancers: respecting the specificity of the work while helping each artist find a clear, personal way into it.

02 / Theatre & storytelling

The dancer.
The storyteller.

In addition to his career in ballet, Ian appeared as Hans in the West End revival of Cabaret at London’s Savoy Theatre, and was Assistant Dance Captain, Swing and cover Munkustrap on the UK/European tour of Cats. In 2013, he performed at the Olivier Awards with the casts of both Cabaret and Cats. On screen, Ian started at a very young age, appearing in everything from sitcom pilots, commercials, an award winning feature (Thom Fitzgerald's "The Hanging Garden"), and then later as an adult in projects such as the international smash hit "Les Misérables."

Theatre has remained a continuous thread, even into his teaching career. More recent roles with Wavestage Theatre Company include Gleb Vaganov in "Anastasia" and Brit Craig in "Parade," alongside performances in "A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder" and "Chicago."
